Napa is the largest city and the seat of Napa County, and is located in the southern end of the county. Once considered the gateway to the Napa Valley, Napa is now a destination city unto itself. In fact, Napa is consistently ranked by numerous sources as one of the best places to live and visit in the United States.

Downtown Napa is known for its late-1800s and early-1900s architecture, a riverfront promenade with shops and restaurants, and an arts scene anchored by the Napa Valley Opera House. Art lovers will fall in love with the sculpture gardens and galleries of Di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art or along the city’s downtown. Foodies will enjoy The Oxbow Public Market, which houses a farmer’s market with many artisanal creations. And the Napa Valley WineTrain visits area wineries via vintage Pullman cars.

Napa is a very walkable city and features a network of sidewalks. Within just a few blocks you can peruse the works of local and nationally renowned artists, dine at Michelin-star restaurants such as La Toque and Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s acclaimed Morimoto, and sip at over 20 tasting rooms—no car needed.

For those who want to walk on grass and gravel rather than sidewalks, Napa offers many parks, gardens, and outdoor activities. You can hike the Bay Area Ridge Trail from the Napa River to Skyline Park, or you can set out on miles of biking trails. There’s also boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding in the Napa River, as well as championship golf courses to challenge you. No matter what you’re into, Napa is sure to deliver!
